Any Paraplegic out there will tell you that life in a spinal unit is one thing but when you get home it’s a whole other thing and you’ve got two choices, you either accept and manage it and get on with life or do what I did and feel sorry for your self, fall out with everybody and self medicate with alcohol. I recommend that anyone that finds them self in this position choose the first option because the route I chose led to self-loathing, anger and depression!
After over 1 year of not leaving the house and hitting rock bottom I knew something had to change but how do you get yourself out there with no self confidence and being massively over weight and unable to push your wheelchair much further than the length of your living room?
Well it took 9 months of daily 30 minutes pushing on the what is now known as the Invictus Active Trainer – but I managed to drop more than 5 stone of weight (32kg), developed a decent set of arms and shoulders and more importantly I found the old me, some debate over whether the old me is a good or bad thing but you know what it’s a very different kind of life but definitely one that’s worth living, and yes I still use the trainer for at least 30 minutes every day!
Paul is a co-founder of Invictus Active.
Paul’s story echos the experience I have received from Invictus active.
I came out of hospital, and was given a wheelchair that I physically couldn’t use. It was too heavy, stiff and non usable for me.
I was getting really depressed and anxious because we are going away and I really didn’t know how I was going to manage.
The Icon 60 has given me freedom and independence back. I love it so much.
The payment plans mean that you can afford to purchase a decent wheelchair.
Thank you so much to this company.
