The Invictus Active Trainer- a complete workout that you can enjoy at home

The Invictus Active Trainer is a lightweight, yet sturdy piece of disabled exercise equipment.  It allows you to enjoy a complete upper body workout from the safety and comfort of your own wheelchair. Also, the trainer folds down easily to a compact size so you can store it away when not in use. It takes just a couple of minutes to unfold and get exercising whenever you have a moment. Better still, if you have the space, leave the trainer set up so you can get even more exercise. Some people set up their trainer in the garage, open the doors and enjoy some fresh air while exercising. Others prefer to place it in front of the TV and do their exercise in the warmth and security of their own home. It doesn’t matter where you choose to exercise……JUST DO IT!!!!!

How does the Invictus Active Trainer work?

This revolutionary piece of disabled exercise equipment consists of a ramp which allows the user to position the driving wheels of the wheelchair onto the rollers. Then, you simply propel your chair, just as you would along the road. The difference is that you can concentrate just on pushing. There is no need to worry about bumps or bends in the road ahead, as you will not actually be going anywhere. If you like, you can use the virtual screen! – where you can push along many routes from across the World. Find out more here.

Concentrating just on the pushing action lets you improve your style, increase your stamina, and gain lots of other benefits. As you begin to build more muscle and improve your stamina you can increase the resistance of the rollers to make the workout harder. Start out gradually and over time you can increase both the resistance and the time you spend on the trainer.

There are three different models of trainer.

  • The Basic model will give you an unrivalled, no-frills upper body workout
  • The Smart Model connects via Bluetooth to your smartphone. It records your speed and distance covered during each workout, so you can track your progress
  • The Smart Plus model also connects to your phone and lets you see in real time your heartrate and the calories you are burning. This piece of disabled exercise equipment gives you the best option for achieving fitness and preventing illness.

Burn calories, increase muscle tone, improve balance and coordination.

Normal wheelchair pushing, at 3mph, burns about 250-kcals each 30-minutes. On the trainer, however, you can burn up to 350-kcals in half an hour. How come? On the road you are not continuously pushing, you stop now and again or freewheel for a bit. On the trainer, you have to keep up a continuous and even pushing rhythm. You will not only burn calories but also gain muscle and get rid of fat. You will look better and feel better. Also, as the trainer lets you concentrate on your technique your pushing skills will improve. You will have better balance and coordination, and these things really help with day to day activities. Additionally, with your increased strength and stamina you will be able to get out and about more in your wheelchair and so enjoy life more.

What other disabled exercise equipment is available?

The BerkelBike Fitness is another exercise option for disabled people. Again, you can use this piece of equipment in your own home. The pedals of your feet and your hands are connected. That means, that even if you have no movement in your lower (or upper) limbs, the passive exercise that they receive helps to prevent muscle loss and atrophy. The BerkelBike can also help in rehabilitation as stimulating affected limbs can help recovery. There are eight resistances to choose from, and the time, distance, and calories burned can be viewed on a screen. This is a great piece of disabled exercise equipment for people looking to maintain and improve movement in their arms and legs.

What are the health benefits from using a piece of disabled exercise equipment?

Getting regular exercise can help you to maintain a healthy weight. This reduces your chances of developing Diabetes 2. Also, the cardio-vascular workout decreases your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Additionally, increasing your stamina and strengthening your lungs will make you feel better as you will be able to do more. Building muscle and improving your coordination and balance will make day to day living easier and more fun. Finally, exercise gives you a more positive outlook on life so you can enjoy yourself more.
